A Green Future for All New Yorkers

The richest 1% own the two major parties. It's time working people had one of our own.

That's why I'm running for Governor. My name is Howie Hawkins. I'm a working Teamster and my running mate, Brian Jones, is a teacher and union member.

New York has the greatest income inequality in the country -- and it has gotten worse under Governor Cuomo's tax breaks for the rich and spending cuts for the rest of us. Our schools are the most segregated in the nation. Poverty is on the rise in cities across the state. It doesn't have to be this way. We can create an economy that meets human needs and protects our planet.

While the Democrats and Republicans argue over who can give better tax breaks to the rich, we support progressive policies like the right to a job and a minimum wage that's a living wage – at least $15/hour; education as a human right with fully funded public schools; and progressive taxes to fund the public services that our communities rely on.

By taxing the rich and Wall Street like we used to in the 1970s, we can fully fund our schools and local governments and lower taxes for working people, including a permanent and substantial cut in property taxes.

New York needs a Green New Deal. We believe that if you cannot find work in the private sector, there should be public jobs available for unemployed workers developing a renewable energy system and meeting unmet community needs in infrastructure, education and social services.

Corrupt politics and rule by the economic elites only works for the richest 1% minority. Together, the working class majority can build an independent political movement that empowers New York's 99%.

I won 60,000 votes for Governor in 2010, which earned official status for the Green Party in NY. This year we are running to change New York politics by pushing progressive solutions to our problems to the center of the public agenda.

Greens don't take corporate money. We are independent of the corporate lobbyists and their paid-for political representatives in the Democratic and Republican parties. We are the alternative to corporate politics.

That's why we need you to join our campaign, make a donation, and volunteer your time to reach voters in your community.

We can change New York. Let's work together to make it happen.

-Howie Hawkins
