Hawkins Tax Disclosure Shows He Is Only Working Class Candidate for Governor

Howie Hawkins, whose name has been placed in nomination to be the Green Party gubernatorial candidate in NY, disclosed today that he had income of $27,238 in 2009. This include $16,947 in pay from UPS for unloading trucks in Syracuse, $10,257 in dividend income, and $34 in interest.

Hawkins paid federal income taxes of $528 and state income taxes of $466. Hawkins became a first time homeowner in 2009, giving him a credit of $6,500 on the purchase price of $65,000.

Hawkins said that far too much of his taxes were going to pay for the military. He urged Congress to deeply cut the massive $708 billion military budget proposed by President Obama and invest the savings instead in affordable housing, job creation, renewable energy, education, and child nutrition programs.
