BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The Green Party gubernatorial hopeful is calling on voters to demand a more stringent energy plan from his fellow candidates.
Howie Hawkins was in Binghamton Tuesday, blasting his Democratic challenger, Andrew Cuomo, on what Hawkins say is Cuomo's lack of an energy agenda. Hawkins, who sees Cuomo as the front runner in the race, says he has not adequately made energy issues a part of his campaign.
"If you look at Cuomo's energy plan, he has some tax credits, you know, to encourage renewables, but they are very small, they are very weak. There is some money for grants, but at the same time, he is calling for a state fiscal emergency. Where is the money going to come from? This is tokenism, it's not a real energy plan," said Hawkins.
Hawkins says he hopes his environmental agenda will court progressive voters to his campaign.
