The Green Party candidates for New York Governor and US Senate held a joint news conference in Binghamton Tuesday to discuss their proposed energy policy.

Gubernatorial candidate Howie Hawkins says he opposes all forms of hydro-fracking and believes coal-fired power plants should be replaced with renewable energy sources rather than natural gas. He criticized Andrew Cuomo's New York Power Policy for having no goals, no timetables and no money. He says environmentalists and progressives should think twice before voting for the Democrats. "Are you going to give your vote to Cuomo and be taken for granted? He's not standing for you believe in. Or, are you going to give it to the Green Party? And send a message to the people, the media and the lawmakers that what you want is clean energy and full employment."

Cecile Lawrence says, "We have the technology and we have the demand. It's only the political will that is keeping us in the United States and in New York State from going ahead and ramping up with installing solar, small-scale wind and ground source heat pumps."

Cecile Lawrence of Apalachin is the Green Party candidate for Kirsten Gillibrand's seat in the US Senate.
