SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins supports an effort to remove a Guard base in Syracuse. Hawkins joined peace activists at the National Guard Base on East Molloy Road Tuesday, calling for the military to eliminate the guard site.

Hawkins says as governor, he'd work to get rid of reaper drones and bring the National Guard back home. He is also calling for a debate with Andrew Cuomo and Carl Paladino as he works to get the word out about his candidacy.

"Even those who don't think they don't need a third party, I think a lot of them aren't happy with the democrats and republicans. The problem is people knowing who I am, knowing what I stand for and getting that word out," Hawkins said.

Hawkins says the main difference between him and the other candidates is that he's an economic progressive while Cuomo and Paladino are economic conservatives.
