NEW YORK STATE FAIR -- Candidates are using the State Fair to connect with voters. Most of the statewide hopefuls have toured the grounds. The latest to do so is a candidate who knows he has little chance of winning. It's the Green party candidate for Governor, Howie Hawkins, who's battling for the attention of media in the contest.

"The standard way it's covered is democrat versus republican, unless somebody else has got a lot of money or showing up in the polls. No polls have asked how many people support the green party. So that's the big obstacle," Hawkins said. "In local races, we're able to get out there and ideas do catch on. Public power is something I ran for when I ran for mayor in 2005. It caught on amongst the people of Syracuse. Both the other candidates picked it up and we eventually got a study funded by the council."

Hawkins says it's time for discussion of the real issues in the race for Governor.
