WBNG: Push to ban drilling PDF Print E-mail

WBNG Binghamton
Endicott, NY
June 30, 2010

Two Green party candidates say a moratorium on drilling in New York is not enough.

US Senate candidate Cecile Lawrence stopped in Endicott to speak out about hydrofracking.

Green Party Candidate for Governor Howie Hawkins was also there.

Lawrence says there are better options for energy such as the sun.

She says renewable energy is sustainable both economically and environmentally.

They both want a ban on both horizontal and vertical drilling in New York.

They say the economic boom will be short term and will not be worth the potential impacts on mother nature.

"We have not come up with any solution as to what to do with these fracking wastes. Calling it water is ridiculous because in no way shape or form is this fracking waste water. It should not be going into landfills anywhere in this country, including in New York," said Lawrence (G), Candidate for U.S. Senate.

Lawrence is from Apalachin and running for the US Senate seat held by Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand.
