Howie Hawkins, the Green Populist candidate for Congress in the 25th district, will hold a news conference at 1:30 pm on Thursday, September 11 Green Party Office, 2617 S. Salina St., Syracuse to discuss the results of a review conducted by his campaign over the last ten days of the specific objections to his ballot petition filed by the Maffei campaign.

Hawkins will be joined by some of the volunteers who helped to review the objections as well as lawyers who are helping him to defend his petition. The petition, the worksheets from the review, and a computer with the voter database will be available to the media to check the review.

"The challenge is not even close. We submitted 6298 signatures and the Maffei people challenged 3136 of them. We found that 850 of the signatories challenged were right in the voter database from the Board of Elections with the correct name, address, and city or town. We found another 600 challenged signatures where it is clear that the signatory is registered and qualified to sign the petition, but moved within the district, or there is an obvious typo error in the voter database such as a transposed letters or numbers, or the person used a hyphenated last name on the petition or on their registration card but not both. The bottom line is we have over 4500 signatures from registered voters in the congressional district and we need only 3500 to qualify for the ballot," Hawkins stated.

The New York State Board of Election has scheduled a hearing on the petition challenge for 12 noon, Friday, September 12 at their offices in Albany.
