Hawkins would be catalyst in Congress

To the Editor:

As in the rest of the country, citizens in Central New York have felt the brunt of the rapid escalation in fuel prices in recent years. It is time for that to end and start seeking alternative fuel sources – specifically, renewable energy sources: harvesting and generating energy from the sun and wind. They are both in abundant supply, and far cheaper in the long run than all the hassle of obtaining oil overseas.

Washington, D.C., needs a catalyst to spearhead such a renewable energy initiative. The vast majority of the politicians on November’s ballot have failed to include such policies in their platform.

Fortunately, Syracuse’s Howie Hawkins is running an independent campaign for Congress, to take over the soon-to-be-vacant seat of Congressman James Walsh.

Hawkins has consistently included renewable energy policies in his past campaigns. It would be judicious to catapult him to D.C., where his proposals can start making headway toward America’s independence from foreign oil and provide a better life for all Americans.
