Pair file petitions to run for congressional seat

Syracuse Post-Standard

August 20th, 2008

The race for the 25th Congressional District seat may now have four contestants.

Howie Hawkins and David Andrew Gay both filed petitions Tuesday with the state Board of Elections to get on the November ballot, the elections board reported on its Web site. Hawkins filed to run as the Green Populist candidate. Gay filed to be on the Libertarian line.

Opponents have through Friday to challenge the petitions. If the petitions hold up, Hawkins and Gay would join Democratic-Working Families candidate Dan Maffei and Republican-Conservative Dale Sweetland in the race to succeed James Walsh, the Republican who is retiring after 20 years in Congress.
