Action News is providing you with one more opportunity to understand the issues and learn more about the candidates with an Action News Special: Covering the Candidates. This election eve preview walks through the important races in our area from the Presidential campaign to candidates for the State Legislature.

The balance of power in New York State is up for grabs as the Republican Party’s long hold on power in the State Senate could end with a few key races flipping toward the Democrats. One of those key races is the 48th Senate District, featuring incumbent Democrat Darrel Aubertine and Republican challenger Dave Renzi.

New York’s upstate Congressional seats also may turn largely Democratic. The 25th Congressional District seat being vacated by the retiring Rep. Jim Walsh pits Democrat Dan Maffei with a six to one fundraising advantage over his opponent, Republican Dale Sweetland. Green Populist Party candidate Howie Hawkins has also been a presence in the campaign. In the 24th Congressional District, first term Democrat Mike Arcuri is hoping to withstand a charge by Republican businessman Richard Hanna. During our Action News special we hear from all of those candidates for Congress.
