Syracuse - Tonight's final presidential debate between Barack Obama and John McCain is the main bout, but the three 25th Congressional District candidates will be answering questions live on TV tonight, too.

Democrat Dan Maffei, Republican Dale Sweetland and Green Populist Howie Hawkins will appear separately on WTVH-TV (Channel 5) for a half hour each between 6 and 7:30 p.m.

It won't be a debate like the presidential affair. WTVH anchor Donna Adamo and Syracuse University political science professor Robert McClure will question the candidates individually.

The candidates will draw straws during WTVH's 5:30 p.m. newscast to determine the order of their appearance on the 90-minute show.

The three congressional candidates are also scheduled to debate at 8:15 a.m. Thursday at the Thursday Morning Roundtable at Drumlins, 800 Nottingham Road. That program will be broadcast on WCNY-FM, 91.3, at 7 p.m. Thursday. Syracuse University political science professor Grant Reeher will moderate that event.

Tonight's presidential debate is scheduled from 9 to 10 p.m. at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

The 25th Congressional seat is held by Rep. James Walsh, R-Onondaga, a ten-term incumbent who is retiring. The 25th Congressional District includes Onondaga and Wayne counties and part of Cayuga and Monroe counties.
