ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Another day and another forum for the congressional candidates in the 25th District. Democrat Dan Maffei, Republican Dale Sweetland and Green party candidate Howie Hawkins are participating in a large series of such showcase events. All three say despite the relatively small numbers of people in the audience, the events do serve an important purpose.

"It's very important that the constituents of this district have access to all the candidates during this election cycle, so we're trying to do forums. We're trying to do them in a variety of different places," said Maffei.

"This is the way the voters get to hear us and it's important because not all of us can go on TV and buy a lot of ads," Hawkins said.

"They get a better sense of who we are. Better sense than they can from a palm card or a mailing or a commercial on TV," said Sweetland.

The 25th district covers all of Onondaga and Wayne counties, as well as portions of Cayuga and Monroe counties. The current incumbent, James Walsh, is not seeking re-election.
